Introduction to College English Teaching and Research Section

Founded in September 1974, College English Teaching and Research Section has a total number of 34 teachers at present, including one professor, 10 associate professors and 23 lecturers. Besides the English classes of continuing education for adults, we also shoulder the teaching tasks of College English for students at the undergraduate level．

College English Teaching and Research Section has made some reforms in teaching theories, teaching contents, teaching methods and assessment measures according to the actual situation of our students and requirements of our university for personnel training. At present, a series of newly-edited textbooks, such as New Horizon College English by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press and New Progressive College English by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, have been adopted. All these textbooks, the Twelfth Five-Year National-Level Planning Teaching Materials, are intended for the students of tertiary education by the Ministry of Education．

While fulfilling the assigned teaching tasks with quality and quantity, great importance has also been attached to scientific research, with remarkable achievements made by joint efforts in recent years including some provincial-level and bureau-level research projects. Most of the middle-aged as well as the young teachers, having published over 60 academic articles, are growing into the backbone of the School. In addition to the normal teaching tasks, College English Teaching and Research Section also conducts a wide variety of extra-curriculum activities to improve the teaching quality, which has greatly stimulated the students’ interest in learning English language and enlivened their campus life．

Adhering to the“People-Oriented and Success-Oriented”principle，College English Teaching and Research Section will take on a new look and fulfill the college English teaching responsibility with greater enthusiasm．
